Nabat Rock Candy

Nabat is Iranian rock candy: sugar syrup crystallised slowly on a stick or thread into clear golden crystals. Saffron nabat, infused with real saffron, is a speciality of Mashhad and one of the city's best-known souvenirs. In Persian tradition it is also taken with hot water to soothe the stomach.

Mojtahedi offers saffron and plain nabat as sticks and loose pieces, in household packs and gift boxes. Stir a stick into a glass of hot tea or herbal infusion and let it melt instead of sugar, or serve it on the tray with tea for guests.
